because I don’t actually consider myself a runner.
Except…I run 2-5 miles 2-3 times a week. So, I guess that makes me a runner!
A more accurate description is that I am an emotional trail runner. Running outdoors in sun or rain or snow is my happy place, and I’m negatively affected if I don’t do it!
I run with Jill Perry and her Whole Running group (whom I couldn’t live without). Once a week my husband and I have a running “date” at Green Lakes
(which I cannot give up!).
If I had the choice I’d pick a run in knee-deep snow over
lifting weights at a gym any day.
1. When training for my two half marathons, I ran 4-5 days a week and did some yoga, but I wasn’t doing any resistance training. Between those races, I’d take weeks off. When I’d go back to running, I physically felt like I was starting over,
after only a few weeks off!
2. Despite many miles and hours of running and hard work, my body wasn’t changing, the scale wasn’t moving, and I didn’t look like an athlete!
Then I started training with Trish Law at Method 360. As I dosed in her resistance-based classes 2-3 days a week while continuing trail running, I improved my running performance and my physical body.
Don’t believe me?
1. When I had to take a break from running for a week or two, I came back just as strong. My running coach, Jill, taught me that my arms move my legs, so the stronger my arms got with my Method 360 resistance-based training, the faster my running got.
2. My body fat percentage decreased. My fat weight decreased. My lean mass increased. I put on significant amounts of muscle,
helping me burn fat and run stronger!
With everything in life, maintaining balance is difficult, so there are times
when I am more dedicated to working out than others.
And in class, I’m not hardcore by any means!
It’s proven here:
In January 2016, Trish designed a plan for me to start focusing on consistently doing 3 things: running 2-3 times a week, weight training M360 classes 2-3 times a week, and adding protein to my diet. In January I was averaging an 11-minute mile around Green Lakes. Now I’m at 9:30 and lost 5% of my body fat!
I can do more pushups, hold plank longer, and run 4 miles in the hills of Pratts Falls and not feel like I’m going to throw up. That’s improvement.
Trish knows I will not give up my trail running. I need to feel the sun on my face, hear the wind through the trees, and spend quality time in the woods with my Whole Running friends. Her plan for me to dose in running and resistance training has made me a stronger, healthier, balanced runner, I mean, emotional trail runner!
