Unfortunately for me, Brandon & Kristen have something very, very different in mind.
Halfway through class, my teammate Ashley asks, “When did this class become Body Weight & Cardio, Jenliddy?!!??” No kidding! There are no slow movements. There is nothing meditative about this. And oh, the sweat!
She does NOT ask this with fondness in her voice.
We all limp out of here exhausted but somehow excited & buoyant, not sure what just happened to us.
1. “What the hell are ‘fast-twitch muscles’?”
Think short duration & rapid contractions; think power rather than endurance; think track team sprinter.
Very different from slow-twitch muscles. Those are fatigue resistant: think endurance rather than power; think Boston marathon Kenyan.
2. “Why the hell are we working them when we usually slow down resistance training & watch form, form, form?”
“Fast twitch training is an interesting concept to add to our clients’ training. For our tribe, the cool things about fast twitch training are these 2 benefits:
1) increasing speed & power for people who run/do triathlons
2) smashing an impending plateau. Shake things up & help avoid that!”
Bottom line: the fast-twitch training this week probably means you’re outside of your comfort zone. It probably means your heart rate monitor is going crazy. It probably means you are worried you’re screwing up the fitness prescription that you got in your assessment.
Have you been out of your comfort zone? GOOD! Do you not like what's handed to you? CHANGE IT.
You know the Method philosophy: wring the most out of your hour & make this workout your own.
AND...stop being afraid break your patterns.
One piece of advice: bring a damn towel to class this week. We promise: you ARE going to sweat.
