In my last post, I shared her advice: “Do something different.” It scared the hell out of me because a) I liked my routine & b) I knew it would be hard.
A month later, May 4, after shaking things up, eating very clean, & working incredibly hard at “doing something different” with my fitness routine, I checked myself out in the mirror: what did it show? The same image it always did: I don't see myself objectively.
I thought about how my clothes were fitting. Though no longer sausage-tight, they certainly weren’t loose. I must not have accomplished much in the last month. RATS.
Then I got on the scale. ARGH!! Only down 2 pounds! How depressing! How demeaning! WHYYYYYYYYY?! That same day, I got an assessment.
Ah ha! That’s the stupid two pounds on the scale. How amazing! How empowering!
Have you felt stuck? Are you not seeing changes, not believing that change can truly happen? Yeah – I never believed 9 pounds of fat could come off this 45-year-old stuck body. If you believe that too, regardless of your age, please read on:
1. Don’t rely on subjective tools like the mirror, the scale, & your clothes. They do not adequately or objectively show the changes your body is making.
2. You really have to get uncomfortable to change your body. For you, this might mean picking up heavier weights, adding in more resistance, or working on your flexibility. For me, it meant really kicking my cardio work up & challenging myself in ways I never thought possible.
3. Almost everyone sighs in resignation when I tell them, "Yes. It was hard. Yes, it is uncomfortable." There is no magic pill, people, but I promise - there is good stuff on the other side of that discomfort.
How can you make these changes? Maybe you will have no problem kicking it up a notch on your own. If you’re like me, some guidance will help. I had two or three personal training sessions that absolutely taught me what I needed to do. I started running training with Kris the Running Chick, & that has been mind-blowing for this running-hater! I incorporate my Method 360 resistance classes with high weights & focus on form, dosing in cardio to meet my heart rate needs.
What do YOU need? How can you find out? It’s easy – talk to us. Our assessments are prescriptive and thorough. Or, attend Trish’s workshop at 6:45pm on Thursday, June 4th: “You Are Not Stuck”.
It’s hard work – I will not lie. But the way I feel after 8 weeks of “kicking it up a notch” has morphed how I see possibilities for myself in every realm! I swear: it IS possible for YOU.
