“15 years ago, I resigned myself to the ‘fact’ that me & running were never going to be synonymous. After 3 ankle surgeries, I was so afraid to get re-injured that I took running off of the table. I found other alternatives to running.
I took my first Method class in July of this past year. I needed something different and want to change up my normal exercise routine. Within just a few weeks, I began to question what I really couldn’t do and began to ask myself the question, “Can I really never run again or are there ways around this?”
Right around that time, I heard about the Learn to Run program and inquired. From the first email I received from Kris, I knew this would be a great opportunity to go at my own pace & see if running was going to work for me. From day 1, Kris took the time to get to know all of us & tailored the program to meet each individual needs.
Everyone should try the running program if they have ever had a desire to be a runner! It’s a great opportunity to work with Kris and get some one-on-one attention tailored to your needs. And most importantly, it’s a great program to meet people that you otherwise may or may not cross paths with.
I’m generally introverted so it is difficult to do things that are out of my comfort zone, but from the first moment of both Method and the Learn to Run Program, I felt like I belonged right where I was. I met some great people and really looked forward to Tuesday and Saturdays to run with them. And I love working out with them now at Method.
· How is Method 360 different from other things you have tried?
I’ve spent countless hours in gyms or on my bike and the intention was always for a personal, physical benefit. I walked through those doors and was in a bubble to get a good workout in for me. And to be honest, I often ‘dogged’ a lot of workouts or left after a 30 minute session on the elliptical machine.
But, walking through the doors of Method immediately felt different. You suddenly realize that you have a contribution to make and other people contribute to your experience. Your presence impacts others. Just walking through the door at Method changes my mood. The trainers are guiding you every step of the way; providing new perspective and encouragement throughout the workout. Their stories motivate you; they make you work harder; they make you look around the room and pull energy from your teammates and to give energy back; they make you question your intentions; and they make you laugh because they say exactly what you’re thinking!
· What is your main source of motivation?
In January, I decided to get the full picture and had an assessment with Trish, which has really changed the way I approach my workouts. She helped me realize I needed to focus on resistance and put cardio on the back burner. Within just two weeks, I felt stronger and my clothes felt different. My motivation is to feel better and stronger and of course, I want that percentage of body fat to decrease. And honestly, I am in better overall shape now than I was in my 20s. And I want this trend to continue.
· What goals have you achieved since completing the Learn to Run program at M360? What do you hope to achieve in the future?
During the Learn to Run Program, one of my friends from college was coming to visit for the weekend. I told her to bring her running stuff so that we could run together on Saturday morning. Her first reaction was disbelief because most of the people in my life knew that “Jeanna doesn’t run”. We ran 4 ½ miles that Saturday morning and I kept up with her pace the entire time. I probably will never be a marathon runner, but I hope to do longer races over the next couple of years. I grew up in Utica so running the Boilermaker has always been on my bucket list…with my 20 year high school reunion coming up on Boilermaker weekend this year, maybe this year; I will cross it off of my list.
Thank you so much Jeanna for being our Success Story for March! We look forward to supporting your goal of running the Boilermaker this summer. We want to offer you an assessment to help you achieve your goals, as we know how useful you find them!
