However, she refuses to be a victim to these diseases & is a walking testament to what intelligent, thoughtful fitness can do for any body! "I want my daughter to see me as strong woman, not a victim," Lisa says.
She has become empowered, making her health and fitness a priority, overcoming challenges, refusing to believe the lies that her brain tells her, & achieving incredible things on the floor in her 6 months at Method 360!
Look at the picture of the woman above, in a wheelchair! This is the Lisa, the same woman who has, since starting at Method, "walked a 5K with my daughter & been part of a relay team in the Gillie Girl triathlon." She says, "Next year, I am on a relay team for the Syracuse Half Ironman. Yes, really. I have a (as yet unspoken) dream of doing a sprint tri by myself in the future!"
Lisa has learned that "it is ok, and even beneficial, to fail! It is ok to modify and do things differently. I am capable of so much more that I thought I was even a few months ago. A few years ago, I had a handicapped parking pass, since it was a struggle some days to even walk or even stand up. This place has helped my quality of life in so many ways."
She certainly deserves to be November's Success Story, don't you think!? Have you been telling yourself you can't do it? Let Lisa convince you otherwise:
I was concerned about being able to do the classes without getting injured, so I met with Trish Gallen & Kristen Griffin before starting. I worked with Kristen one-on-one for a few months, getting me acclimated & identifying modifications I could take in class if specific exercises didn’t feel right."
What do you feel Method 360 Fitness has helped you with the most?
It has helped me with not feeling like a victim in my own body. RA and fibro can do a number on a person, both physically and emotionally. When first diagnosed, I felt like so much had been taken away from me. There is so much that I CAN do now. I have so much more energy & so much less joint pain. I also feel better emotionally knowing that I can do a one hour workout and get a good night of sleep.
Also, I am now completely off of one of the RA meds and have avoided high blood pressure medication!
My endurance. I am not exhausted mentally or physically at the end of each day anymore. I am able to do more things with my husband and daughter. Before, I spent more time on the sidelines.
How is Method 360 different from other things you have tried?
The ability and freedom to make modifications is huge! It is empowering! Other places did not offer this to me; I was offered “arthritis” classes.
I love the explanations of the physiology behind the one-hour workout. There are reasons why certain things work, and why certain things don’t. I have never had that explained to me before."
Not only does Lisa fully participate in Method 360 classes 4-5x/week, she is participating as part of our team in the Jingle Bell Run for the Arthritis Foundation on November 22nd!
Lisa, Thank you so much for inspiring all of us! We’ve watched you gain strength, confidence, & successfully take your fitness and health to a new level. We applaud you for showing others that they too can achieve and overcome their goals, regardless of the challenges. In appreciation we would like to give you a 5-class pass to use any way you would like. Thank you again and good luck with your upcoming race; we will be cheering you on!
