In a very physically demanding job, Stacy needed a fitness regimen that would help her avoid injury and keep up with her active lifestyle.
Stacey says, “I’ve found my happy place! I look forward to coming to the gym in the morning and seeing the smiling faces of the trainers and everyone else who is there to work out. I’ve made friends who I would have never known otherwise."
Here’s Stacey’s story:
I used to feel inadequate when I couldn’t do certain things & would shy away from exercises I couldn’t do well. Then one day, one of the trainers said, “You are going to fail.” At first I was confused. Why are you making me do this exercise if you know I can’t??? Then I understood what that meant.
Now when I find a difficult exercise, I try to do it every chance that I get….example: battle ropes. I used to HATE those & would curse the trainers under my breath when they would put them in the circuit. Now I CHOOSE them when get the chance! The failures push me to work harder.
I'd been running for two years, completed three half marathons, two Mountain Goats and a few other races. Running had become my new love. I even had my eyes set on a full marathon! After dislocating my knee for the second time in March 2014, I thought running was off the table. That second knee injury crushed me. I became very depressed and put on so much weight. I was lost and didn’t know what to do.
Since working out at Method, I have less pain and have started running again. Syracuse Half Marathon 2015 here I come!
Although the number on the scale hasn’t budged, my body fat has gone down, I’ve lost inches, & a pant size. As great as those things are, the best improvement is the amount of pain in my knee has gone down considerably.
I don’t have to compete with anyone but myself. When I see someone in class doing something that looks really hard, I don’t get jealous. I try it. Some things require a little courage, like the handstand. I really want to try it, but am still working up the courage to do it. Someday I will, but for now, I will just pickup pointers from the yogis in class. I don’t want to be the best; I just want to be better than I was the day before.
How would you describe Method 360 to someone?
Method is like no gym you have ever been to. The classes are hard, but everyone is happy to be there. The trainers empower you to feel like a rock star and everyone is there to support each other. When you’re having a bad day, one of the trainers will say something that just makes you laugh and snap you out of your bad mood. I truly love this gym and recommend it to everyone I see!
What is your main source of motivation?
My results motivate me to continue. I have a job that is unpredictable and can be physically demanding at times. I like seeing how my workouts make my job easier. Carrying 20+ lbs. of extra weight at work doesn’t seem like such a big deal and helps me keep my focus where it needs to be and not on how tired I am carrying that load up and down stairs. Method helps keep me safe!
What goals have you achieved since starting M360? What do you hope to achieve in the future?
I finally bought a pair of printed workout tights! Sounds crazy, but I’ve always loved color and wanted to wear some wild pattern, but I was too self-conscious to wear them. It was always black, black, black. Now I can wear colorful tights with confidence! When I cross the finish line of my first post-knee dislocation half marathon, I will be wearing those bright tights! For the future, I still hope to work towards a full marathon….dream race: the Marine Corp Marathon in Washington D.C. Fingers crossed!
